If you’re coordinating a major awards gala or corporate recognition night here in South Australia, we know the size and scale of this undertaking is substantial. Whether you’re honouring staff within a government department or celebrating finalists across an entire sector, you want the night to be a roaring success.
Mixed Mediums has over a decade of experience providing full service video production for nights just like this, we have first-hand experience of the impact films have on such an event. They clearly, and in layman’s terms, explain the finalist’s role and the impact they have upon their clients, stakeholders and colleagues.
To truly capture the impact of your finalists, you need strong storytelling. What was the problem? How did the finalist solve a problem? How did they make a difference? What are the lasting impacts?
And when you’re dealing with 10, 20, or even 30+ nominee films, you don’t just need someone who owns a camera, you need a full-service Adelaide video production team that can schedule filming with all finalists, along with crew, equipment and locations in a way that stays on time and within budget.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we deliver high-volume awards and recognition films, and why the real work goes way beyond simply hitting ‘record’.
Phase 1: Pre-Production
When you’re managing a massive awards project across SA, the real heavy lifting happens weeks before the cameras even roll.
We sit down with your team to understand your core goals, deliverables and brand guidelines. From there, we build out a time and cost-effective production schedule. Managing dozens of nominees means coordinating diaries across a heap of different locations, from offices across the Adelaide metro area to regional schools and hospitals.
A massive part of our pre-production process comes down to compliance and risk management. Because we’ve been operating in Adelaide for over 16 years, we handle all the boring (but crucial) paperwork:
- Location Scouting & Permits: Whether it’s a hired studio or a public space, we sort out the necessary permits and location clearances.
- Talent Release & Consent: There’s so much distrust in the media today, and we get why, but we build trust with our clients and their staff by ensuring they understand that their videos will only be used for the intended purpose.
- Risk Assessments: We make sure all shoots are fully compliant, safe, and above board, which is an absolute must for our government clients.
Phase 2: Production & Capturing Real Stories
The goal of an awards film isn’t just to capture someone’s achievements, it’s about capturing their actual human impact.
Our Adelaide based production crew works to create a relaxed and inclusive environment on set. By keeping nominees comfortable and having a proper chat, we draw out the authentic, emotional stories that make the audience sit up and take notice on the night. We regularly receive positive feedback from finalists thanking us for making the whole filming experience stress-free and fun, because Awards filming shouldn’t be stressful, it should be fun!
Phase 3: Post-Production & Keeping Data Safe
Once filming wraps, we head into the edit suite. This is where our team handles the weeks worth of footage, cuts together the awards films and provides professional colour grading and sound mixing so the final videos look and sound incredible on massive venue screens.
Because we manage high-volume projects, data security is built into our processes. We back up all footage with off-site redundancies to protect against hardware failure, ensuring your project is never compromised (And yes, once the project is done and dusted, we archive the files off-site and hand over the raw footage if you want it).
Phase 4: Getting the AV Sorted
This is where most video projects run into trouble, and it’s exactly where our 16 years of video production experience comes in handy.
No matter how good your final video is, if the venue’s AV team struggles to play the files on the night, the whole event is ruined. Or worse, imagine prematurely revealing a winner before the films have been played. We’ve heard of such horror stories.
We don’t just send you a link to a folder of MP4s and wish you luck. We handle the event presentation layout too. Our team compiles all of your event’s branding, video assets, category stingers, presenters, winners, sponsors and hype reels into a seamless and cohesive presentation. Then, we collaborate directly with the venue’s AV team. This could be the Adelaide Convention Centre, the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide Town Hall, Morphettville Racecourse or a local hotel. By taking this extra level of care and working with the Venue AV Team, we guarantee a successful event night with smooth playback and zero awkward technical pauses.
At Mixed Mediums, we also offer professional live streaming services so that if guests or finalists can’t attend your live event, they don’t have to miss a moment. We regularly livestream large-scale events to wider audiences, especially for events with significant numbers of finalists across regional South Australia who can’t be in attendance. We regularly livestream events using multi-camera productions, across simultaneous platforms such as YouTube and Facebook, and can even stream directly to client’s websites.
An awards night is a direct reflection of your organisation’s brand and values. Make sure your finalists get the spotlight they deserve with a video partner who handles the storytelling, the logistics, and the technical delivery.
